| About the Therapies
Although trained in several therapies, I appreciate that a gentle
and gradual approach to treatment suits most patients particularly those
who have been ill for some time. Whilst detoxification is important, I
am an expert in supporting pathways that often under-function in those
with neurotoxic illness, and in preparing the body so that it becomes able to
detoxify itself. I may also refer patients to other
practitioners such as a cranial osteopath, lymphatic massage therapist, or a
colon hydrotherapist to provide adjunctive support.
Naturopathy
Naturopathy simply means working with the body and is designed to activate the body’s innate self-healing capabilities. This can be accomplished by a variety of treatments which may include dietary modification, hydration, improving efficiency of digestion, absorption and elimination, supplementation and organ support. It incorporates lifestyle changes like getting more fresh air, exercise of sleep, and includes techniques you can do at home like therapeutic baths, enemas, etc. If structural treatment may be beneficial, I would refer you to a local specialist.

Energy Medicine
Many natural therapies were originally developed by doctors who are often involved in the training of practitioners today.
Homoepathy is an example of energetic medicine, and was developed 200 years ago by Dr Samuel Hahnemann in Germany. Energy medicine is based on the principle of using frequencies rather than chemicals in treatment. Scientists tell us that over 95% of the universe is made up of energy rather than matter that we can see, hear and touch. Examples of this include electricity, wi-fi signals, microwaves, X-Rays etc., all of which affect us even though we may not be aware of them. Quantum physics – which studies energy – has provided a scientific explanation to help us understand how homeopathy may work. It is now possible to measure individual frequencies and to quantify them mathematically, and remedies can be made by entering the frequency number into a special machine. Several studies have been carried out on plants and seeds showing changes upon exposure to homeopathic remedies. Alterations in the molecular structure of water have also been demonstrated after remedies were added. This means that changing the energy of something can also have an effect on matter. We can all experience this for ourselves. Have you ever entered a room with a ‘bad’ atmosphere and felt affected by it, or felt your stomach lurch when stressed?
In the past homeopathy was often all that was needed to restore health. However, due to the fact that we all accumulate toxins within our bodies today, homeopathy is often more effective when combined with other modalities.

Detoxification
Whilst I agree that removal of toxins is an important part of getting well, I do not agree with detoxification techniques. I believe that we only store toxins because our bodies were unable to remove them when first exposed, and that pulling them out of storage without first having strengthened the organs of elimination, could be damaging. If you are constipated, or if your liver or kidneys are congested there is no reason to suppose that your body would be any more successful at removing the toxins than it was before. Also, toxins are often incorporated into enzymes or in the tissues and in the absence of the correct vitamins and minerals, the body may be dependent on them to function – albeit not so efficiently. The best way, in my view, is to cleanse and strengthen the organs, optimise the diet and supplement with key nutrients, according to the needs of the individual. This approach enables the body to release toxins in its own time and at its own pace, without the need for potentially dangerous detoxification protocols. Minerals gently displace toxins, and although a slower process, is safer and more effective in the long term.

Nutritional Balancing
How the body responds to different nutrients depends upon the level of health and the challenges facing it. Properly interpreted hair mineral analysis can reveal how efficiently each organ is functioning, whether the metabolic rate is too fast or too slow, which minerals may be biounavailable to the body and the presence of heavy metals. Biounavailability means that the body is not able to make use of a nutrient so is dumping it instead. Biounavailability is different to deficiency - although that is often a problem today as well - since it will not respond to supplementation. In fact, supplementation of some minerals could actually place the body under more stress.

Clinical Nutrition
Clinical Nutrition is sometimes referred to as functional medicine
which means the emphasis is on how the body functions in health, how
it may under-function or mal-function in ill-health and how to correct
this using diet and supplements therapeutically. The importance of diet is often overlooked by the sophisticated technological approach of today.
(For example, Nutritional Therapy has a 90% success rate in the treatment
of infertility; Homoeopathy has 60% and IVF 20%). Modern medical research
is now showing that food has a direct biochemical impact at a cellular
level, and modern diets can impair efficient functioning. I believe
this is a fundamental place to start, as putting the wrong ‘fuel
mix’ in your body can reduce energy, upset vital functions and
underlies many health problems.

Flower Essences &
Counselling
Counselling enables a person to understand their feelings and their
lives. However, simply gaining insight does not always remove the emotional
scars. This is where flower essences come in. I have found flower essences to be very simple but very powerful as they can dissolve negative emotions without the need to go through the counselling
process of bringing painful memories into consciousness. Flower essences
can give you emotional detachment to painful issues and help you access
your inner strength. They can also provide wonderful support during a time of crisis.
Flowers can harness the healing energies of the sun and Nature, which
is what makes us feel good when we walk in the country or go to the
beach, and these energies are carried in water, which has now been found
to have memory. Studies on the molecular structure of water
have revealed that the molecules change their configuration when treated
with essences and homoeopathy. Since we are between 65% and 85% water
using energised water as a healing medium can have a powerful effect
on the body and emotions.
